Hard to sleep in some alburgues. Too much going on. Not much snoring and no one complained about me but I was awake often. Linda heard two or three gunshots but I only heard one. Very unusual. We walked to the historic part of the city and saw the outside of the Knights Templar castle. The first re live castle we have seen up close. We were last out again so we had to move along. Ponferada is a pretty town, about 70,000 population so it took us a while to get out of town. Cool and cloudy and it rained very little. We had about a 9.5 miles and it was a flat. We had two rooms at a Hostal that were just right. Nothing fancy. We had a happy hour in Linda and Helen’s room with wine for Helen, short beers for Linda and Ag and caffe con leche with Gessy ( Bailey’s) for Joe. Linda was beat so she skipped dinner. We ordered the pilgrims menu, a first course, second plate and dessert and wine/water. Margot, an older Dutch woman who we met walking out of Ponferada, joined us for dinner. She is an entrepreneur/teacher who has worked in Europe and Chad. A hiker and biker, she told us of walking and biking trios she has done in France. Nice lady. The four of us decided to make a short walk tomorrow. Another great day on the Camino.
